About us
Beyond the Rainbow is a Not For Profit organisation that was established in 2023 by local Tasmanian families that are all too familiar with the impact of baby loss.
This organisation consists of six board members - Collette & Nathan Butler, Fiona McHenry, Annie & Daniel Jakstas & Emma Deane - With each member bringing to the team their own stories of baby loss & as a collective are passionate about improving the baby loss support that is offered to families across all of Tasmania & strive to help raise awareness on this grief & loss.
How we began- Collette & Nathan first experienced baby loss in May 2020 through the passing of their first born, Amelia, at 38 weeks gestation during labour as a result of an umbilical cord complication. Following Amelia’s passing, Collette & Nathan experienced three miscarriages in the hope of bringing a baby home.
Collette began fundraising and raising awareness of how losing a baby can impact not only the family but the community around them. After holding her first fundraiser event in 2022, Collette was able to start funding the creation of baby loss gift boxes which were then donated to Launceston General Hospital.
How we formed - In early 2023 Collette & Nathan began the process of setting up the charity’s foundations alongside Fiona McHenry - who too shares the passion & drive to make a change after witnessing family & friends experiencing infancy loss & fertility challenges.
In the middle of 2023 - Annie and Daniel Jakstas gave birth to their son Jonathon in June 2023 who was sadly born still. During this time, they received a care box that had been donated to the hospital. The box helped greatly with the grieving process and shortly after Annie reached out to Collette.
Along the way a connection was formed with local mum Emma Deane who sadly said goodbye to her son Jace at 24 weeks gestation & too received a gifted care box.
It was clear that all families & members shared the same goal & dream of establishing a supportive charity with the hopes of helping other grieving families feel less alone.
Beyond the Rainbow was officially launched at the start of 2024 & has already began support families statewide.

Grief is like a wildflower,
it can erupt from the ground
anywhere it chooses,
when it blossoms we must
be careful not to step on it.
Instead we honour its existence
and appreciate that love
made it bloom.
